17 Years of NYC Podcast Production: A Look at Hangar Studios's Track Record

New York, United States - August 1, 2026 / Hangar Studios /

Hangar Studios, the New York City podcast production company founded in 2009, marks 17 years of NYC podcast production with more than 600 clients served, thousands of episodes produced, and more than 50 million listeners reached worldwide. The milestone places Hangar Studios among the longest continuously operating podcast production companies in the United States.

Founded by Jennifer Chernicky in 2009, Hangar Studios was the first podcast production company in the United States owned and operated by a woman of color. The studio has been based at 417 Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan since its founding and has expanded its production footprint to include remote sessions on Riverside or Zoom across six continents and on-location crew deployment to client offices, conferences, and events.

"17 years in this business is not something I take for granted," said Chernicky. "Podcasting was a very different industry in 2009. We have produced through three platform cycles, a global pandemic, and a complete reshaping of how brands think about audio. Our deep expertise helps clients save time and money by guiding them toward their show's specific goals. What has not changed is what we are paid to deliver. A clean, well-engineered episode that sounds like the show its host wants to make."

The shows behind the milestone

Hangar Studios's confirmed show portfolio across 17 years includes the Microsoft Threat Intelligence Podcast, Microsoft Scott and Mark Learn To, Afternoon Cyber Tea with Ann Johnson, JPMorgan Chase's Market Matters, Viatris's Listen Well, Sakara Life, Move with Heart with Melissa Wood Health, Five Things with Lynn Hirschberg for W Magazine, Beauty Curious with Dr. Elyse Love and Ian Michael Crumm, The Knot's XOXO, Thrive Market's But Are You Thriving, The Chairish Podcast, Internet Misfits, and Refinery29's Go Off Sis. The studio's audiobook portfolio includes Powering Up by Anne Doyle, Being Cancer Free by Joyce and Kevin O'Brien, the autism documentary companion I Might Be You, and the entertainment-industry essay collection Actor Writer Whatever.

Beyond named brand and editorial shows, the studio has produced hundreds of independent podcasts for founders, thought leaders, and creators. Edison Research's Infinite Dial 2026 reports that weekly U.S. podcast listenership now sits at its highest level in the medium's history, and the IAB U.S. Podcast Advertising Revenue Report tracks continued double-digit growth in branded podcast spend.

Three formats, one production team

Hangar Studios's three production modes have evolved over the studio's 17 years. Studio production at 417 Fifth Avenue handles audio podcasts, single-camera vodcasts for hosts working alone or with one guest, multi-camera vodcasts for larger shows, and audiobook narration sessions. Remote production runs on Riverside or Zoom with a guest preparation deck sent to every guest in advance and a tech-check call 15 minutes before each session. On-location production brings the production team and equipment to client offices, conferences, and event venues across six continents.

Every session, regardless of mode, runs on Pro Tools and is paired with an in-session engineer. Hourly room rental with an engineer is offered alongside full-service production engagements. Dedicated producers are available as an additional add-on for higher-produced branded shows. Post-production is configured to each show's mastering and distribution needs.

"What I am proudest of is not the client list or the listener count," Chernicky added. "It is that we have spent 17 years building a production team that can take any show, in any format, and make it sound the way the host wants it to sound. We focus on ROI and measurable outcomes for our clients by helping them reach their audience effectively. That is the work. The numbers are the result."

Where the 17-year mark goes from here

The studio's roadmap into the next year includes expanded borough access for hosts across Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan, continued investment in remote production workflows, and additional audiobook capacity to meet rising publisher demand. The studio also offers additional marketing services, such as audiograms and social clips, to engage listeners and support show growth.
